S.D.: We are at the WFNR-EFNR Regional Meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, jointly organized with the 19th Congress of the Society for the Study of Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity and the 19th International Summer School of Neurology, with Dr. Parvin Akbarov, advisor to the chairman and administration of the Regional Medical Division (TABIB), and member of the board of directors at YANI Clinica. Dear Dr. Akbarov, what is the added value of this teaching course in Central Asia and how could it be capitalized at the local level?

P.A.: It is important for global health management and global healthcare. We can approach this from different points. This is [a platform for] networking, innovation, and sharing knowledge. For example, they are bringing experts to the region and training the participants to make new leaders in neurorehabilitation. This is improving healthcare service possibilities. That is why this is a good opportunity for our country. Today, the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (EFNR) together with more than 100 experts came to Baku, Azerbaijan, and shared their knowledge and experience. In the future, this course and Congress will provide many advantages to our healthcare system.

S.D.: When comparing the healthcare system in Azerbaijan with the European healthcare systems, what are the similarities and what would you like to bring in as knowledge exchange to your country?

P.A.: Post-Soviet Union, Azerbaijan immediately changed its healthcare politicians. That’s why, six years ago, we made our government insurance. We make brand-new, local, national, and modern healthcare systems. This is TABIB. Also, in the healthcare system, the Ministry of Health is regulating overall protocol, education, and institutional programs. They are regulators in the Azerbaijan. But TABIB, now all our government hospitals, clinics, polyclinics, and primal services emergency to control with the TABIB and we aim to improve the regional healthcare system. In Azerbaijan, every citizen is covered by insurance, and this a way to justify [bringing] European healthcare systems to Azerbaijan – there are now many protocols and educational programs. A scope for TABIB now is to ensure good healthcare management in big centers like Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke Center.

S.D.: Thank you so much for being here with us!
